28.01.06 00:31 | for all : update - i found the following Thai site on LP Kasem and added it into my web-links - http://www.geocities.com/kasam_kam/ Jan | 26.01.06 18:12 | for all : I have troubles to identify these 4 amulets. If you can help me, please do so
1. LP Thuad (someone told me it might come from Wat Phra Koh, Songkla)
picture: www.hoho.cz/osobni/LP_Thuad.jpg
2. this amulet is certaily connected to Wat Chang Hai. I got it as a present from a guy who lives right in front of the temple. Although it looks like LP Thuad it is not him (the monk is not sitting on a lotos pedestal) but some other LP from Wat Chang Hai. It is 2.5 cm in height.

Thanks, Jan | 26.01.06 16:55 | for all : Dear webfriends, visit http://www.amulets.sg/forum/ thank Tony Tian | 26.01.06 16:25 | for all : update - the date LP Kasem died was corrected. Some sites state BE2538 or even BE2544 but no, according to my book (and local people from Lampang) it was Jan 15, 2539 at 7:42PM. Jan | 26.01.06 15:10 | for all : A nice site on LP Doo, Wat Sakae, Ayuthaya was found at http://jeromelebarbichu0.chez-alice.fr/collectionperso.html (it is in French). He belongs among the most venerable monks in Thailand. Many people wear rings and amulets he concecrated. By the way, does anyone know the name of the present abbot of Wat Sakae (i've been told it is still LP Luei - i am not sure about the english interpretation of his name. LP Doo passed away in BE 2533). Or does anyone have any info about this Wat? I am planning to visit Ayuthaya soon and i would like to visit this temple but i have no clue where it is located. Jan | 26.01.06 14:40 | for all : I admired LP Kasem for his unique efforts in creating amulets with Vajrayana, Mahayana and Theravada characteristics. In a way, he was trying to convey to all buddhists in the world that there is no such thing as Theravada or Mahayana or Vajrayana Buddhist, we are all Buddhist under our great teacher and master, Sakyamuni Gautama Buddha.
LP Kasem's Phra Kring resemblence the Goddess of Mercy, Kuan Yin or in sanskrit language, Bodhisatva Alvalokistevara as well as Amitabha Buddha, the Western Pure Land. As lay buddhist, we are guided by the basic Sigalovada Sutta, the discourse for Lay Buddhists. LP Kasem has been well known for his amulets where Bro. Jan did highlight in his website. Alternatively, there are a small number of good websites on LP Kasem:
1. http://tanabudee.tripod.com
2. http://www.thaiamulets.net/index2 (admin's note: unfortunately JavaScript interpretation in both Firefox and Opera are not really supported on this great site)
Please add on to my list if you have more website linkages to LP Kasem.
Samadhi is a Pali language meaning concentration or in simple term, meditation, as what Bro. Purt described earlier (admin's note: for more info please visit forum at http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/messageboard/ThaiMSG/index.php3 ). As Buddhists, there are couple of things that we need to understand and the reasons why we are adopting such practices:
1) Dana, practising charity and how such action would make us a happy and humble person, we must have the heart, and with that, we develop Metta or loving kindness
2) Sila or morality - the minimum we need to observe the basic five precepts
a) no killing
b) no stealing
c) no sexual misconduct
d) no false speech
e) no intoxicant drinks
3) Bhavana or meditation, every Buddhist must learn how to meditate because the beauty of Buddhism is not just to avoid evil and do good but to purifying the mind and we can achieve that through meditation.
Meditation requires good concentration(samadhi) and as for any meditators, we are aware that concentration need to be developed (not something fall from the sky) and that lead us to the adoption of buddhist meditation techniques known as Samatha and Vippassana.
Frankly, a lot of hardwork required if you really want to experience the beauty our Lord Buddha has taught us.
I believe the next question from the floor would be, why wearing buddhist amulets?
Buddhist amulets blessed by great monks possessed great power. This great power acts as a temporary relief to the wearer who needs to overcome certain obstacles or smooth sailing or to achieve a certain success in his/her life. The list goes on and on.
Moreover, some of us tend to attach to the amulets so deeply and worse still, we started to crave for more and more powerful amulets and willing to pay no matter what the price is (for those who can afford).
Sounds familiar? we have ended up turning the blessed amulets to become a trading commodity since there are willing buyers and willing sellers for these precious buddhist amulets.
The question is, are we doing the right thing in the name of our Lord Buddha or is it not relevant? Or does it depend on certain circumstances? For example, one of our Thai brothers who are willing to forgo his amulets in order to help him to rebuild his damaged home due to disaster. What do you think?
The purpose I am throwing this question to the floor is to help us to gather the opinions of all our brothers and sisters out there in order to clear any wrong views we might have as ultimately, we are all Buddhists and the Buddha's way is our way.
